Dogs That Surprisingly Don't Live That Long
For countless generations, dogs have been more than just a friend; they've been an integral part of our families.
While most dogs live to a ripe old age, some breeds can be considerably shorter than the norm.
These enormous bull-breed dogs, sometimes called French Mastiffs, have a maximum lifespan of 10–12 years, but the vast majority of them die young.
Health problems include heart disease and musculoskeletal problems reduce the average lifespan of most dogs to just 5 to 8 years, according to DogTime.
Their massive size and intimidating look belie the kind and caring companions they make.
According to the American Kennel Club, these so-called "gentle giants" have a life expectancy of little more than 8 to 10 years, with some passing away at the young age of 6 or 7.
They can be emotionally and financially taxing to own as they get older due to the prevalence of health problems related to their large size, including as hip dysplasia and heart disease.
